Dr Ali is our visiting Specialist Orthodontist. His patients say he put them at ease and is excellent at delivering what want. He is a published author, has taught at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, and presented at international conferences. We asked him to tell us a bit about him…
After qualifying with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from University College Cork in Ireland, I moved to Manchester for a year of vocational training and then some years in general dental practice. It was an enjoyable time where I was finding my feet as a clinician. I learned all about veneers, tooth whitening, smile makeovers and even a bit about implants. But my most valuable lesson was learning that to my patient, the most important thing was trust. Their trust that I was doing the best for them, and their belief in my abilities. I always remember this core value in everything I do.
I moved on to work in the hospital in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary. During my years in general practice and surgery, I completed a Masters in Dental Public Health while learning about the other dental specialties.
Orthodontics was always my dream profession, and so I embarked on a three specialist training program in orthodontics. This involved working at Manchester Dental Hospital and Tameside General Hospital while completing a Master of Science degree in Orthodontics at the University of Manchester. I successfully completed the examination held at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and gained the Membership in Orthodontics.
My passion is to provide high-quality orthodontics to patients who really want it. The greatest reward is seeing their joy when it’s all done and dusted. I pride myself on providing braces, Invisalign, tooth whitening and other cosmetic procedures to the highest standard and in an ethical manner. I see patients as partners, and together we embark on the journey to achieve their goals.
I like to spend my spare time with family and friends. I have a keen interest in photography, cycling and lots of sports.
Antonia is our dental hygienist and dental therapist. She is at the practice every other Saturday to help with the periodontal care of the patients who need it. Daniel chose Antonia as his dental therapist because she is gentle and caring, as well as conscientious and knowledgeable.
She looks after patients with her gentle and caring approach and still manages to give the right home-care advice to keep you motivated to look after your teeth and gums.
Antonia enjoys spending time relaxing with her dog, as well as going to various festivals across the country.
Annmarie started working at Bury Dental Centre in 2011 a month after setting up. She was recruited then as a dental receptionist and she has grown extremely well from humble beginnings. She is now our practice manager and is involved in many aspects of the smooth running of the practice.
She likes to ensure the team is working well together and finds time to juggle her family life while also doing her lever 5ILM in leadership and management. Annmarie regularly attends courses such as CQC courses and management courses to keep up to date. She is a fantastic practice manager and in 2017 is a finalist for the best practice manager at the dentistry show awards.
Annmarie enjoys spending time with her family, often bringing her daughter, Lily to the practice for a nice day out. She also enjoys travelling to the lakes and days out to relax and unwind.
Jenny has been with the practice since 2011, and before, and started off as a dental nurse before leaving the practice and then returning again to assist in the management and care of our patients.
She is involved in the day to day looking after of our patients, making sure our dental plans are working to provide our patients with the best care, and she is invaluable in the day to day running of the practice too, with her role supplementing that of Annmarie’s.
She is working towards a practice management qualification and is also juggling time with her baby boy, Connor.
Jenny enjoys spending time reading and can often be caught in a good interesting book, listening to relaxing classical music.
Shannon has been at the practice only since 2016 and has already made a huge positive impact on the practice and the patients. She began the practice as a trainee at Bury College and has grown and grown to become excellent as Daniel’s chairside support and assistance, as well as caring for patients with a smile. Sometimes you will find Shannon on the front desk helping with enquiries, and supporting all aspects of the practice.
Shannon enjoys spending time with her family and friends and watching movies and listening to music.
Kendra is our most recent member of the practice and is already learning a lot when it comes to assisting the dentist and helping patients with their care. She is also at Bury College and helps support the orthodontist on Saturday’s once a month too.
Kendra enjoys being creative and likes to spend time with her family and friends and cooking.
