Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

As with other types of orthodontic treatment, the cost of Invisalign treatment depends on the complexity of your teeth straightening issue and your course of treatment. As a general rule the cost for adults is comparable to traditional fixed braces and is typically between £2,500 and £5,500.

At Bury Dental Centre, as we continue to be one of the fastest growing Invisalign® providers in the North West, our costs can range from £1500 to £4500.

How do our aligners work?

Invisalign aligners move teeth through a series of carefully controlled movements. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign not only controls the amount of movement that each aligner delivers, but also the timing of the movement.

So, at each stage, only certain teeth are allowed to move, following the Invisalign treatment plan for that particular stage. This results in an efficient force delivery system.

How long will treatment take?

Most Invisalign treatments range from 6 months to about 12 months depending on the complexity of the case.

Do you offer any Finance options?

Yes, we have 0% finance over 12 months and an interest-bearing finance over a longer term. Finance applications are subject to status. We cannot guarantee a finance application will be approved.

More Invisalign FAQs

Invisalign treatment is a virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth. Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, Invisalign shows you your complete treatment plan based on your Invisalign Provider’s prescription, from the initial position of your teeth towards the final desired position. Then a series of clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth to move them little by little.

Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next in the series, gradually moving towards the projected final position. The treatment time depends on your specific needs and will be decided by your Invisalign Provider.

Invisalign aligners move teeth through a series of carefully controlled movements. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign treatment not only controls the amount of movement that each aligner delivers, but also the timing of the movement. So, at each stage, only certain teeth can move, following the Invisalign treatment plan for that particular stage. This results in an efficient force delivery system.

Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible and typically hardly anyone notices that you’re wearing them.

Because Invisalign aligners are removable, you can eat and drink what you want during treatment by simply removing the aligners. You can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would to maintain your normal oral hygiene routine.

Unlike traditional fixed braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that in most cases less time is spent in your Invisalign Provider’s practice for adjustments.

And finally, the Invisalign System allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you begin treatment, so you can see how your teeth are expected to look when your treatment is complete.

The virtually invisible aligners are made of strong medical grade thermoplastic material, uniquely developed for the Invisalign® System. The aligners are custom-made for you and fit snugly over your teeth.

Dentists or orthodontists have successfully used removable appliances for years. But the Invisalign System uses Align Technology’s 3D computer technology and mass-customisation to treat a wide range of patients who want straighter teeth. The ClinCheck® software allows patients to see their treatment plan from beginning to end before the start of treatment.

Make an appointment on one of our Mini Smile Makeover Days, or Invisalign® Days, and your Invisalign journey can start with the best in offers, and lots of bonuses on the day, including Free digital scans, and an Outcome Simulation to see how your teeth may look after Invisalign. The easiest way is to book online or you can call us on 0161 761 1909.

When you come to see us for a consultation, we can also do a 3D scan of your teeth, and do an outcome simulation to see how your teeth might look after Invisalign.

Both these are tools as a guide only.

As with other types of orthodontic treatment, the cost of Invisalign treatment depends on the complexity of your teeth straightening issue and your course of treatment. As a general rule the cost for adults is comparable to traditional fixed braces and is typically between £2,500 and £5,500.

At Bury Dental Centre, as we continue to be one of the fastest growing Invisalign® providers in the North West, our costs can range from £1500 to £4200. In addition, when you book on our many Invisalign and Mini Smile Makeover Days, there will be extra bonuses and discounts too

We can use Invisalign to treat overbites in the vast majority of adults and adolescents.
Are there certain dental conditions that automatically exclude someone from being an eligible patient?

No – only after a consultation and planning can we determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment.

Are bridges a factor in Invisalign treatment?

Because bridges firmly link two or more teeth together, they offer significant resistance to tooth movement. We can see whether bridges will be a factor in your treatment.

Are crowns an issue in Invisalign treatment?

Crowns (tooth caps) are usually not an issue in Invisalign treatment. However, sometimes in Invisalign treatment small tooth-coloured composites called ‘attachments’ are bonded onto teeth to help achieve certain movements, and these are more difficult to bond on crowns than on teeth. In these cases, the location of the crowns needs to be carefully evaluated.
Can Invisalign treatment close gaps?

Yes. Spaces between teeth are generally easy to close with Invisalign.
Since having my braces removed, my teeth have shifted. Can Invisalign treatment correct this?
A number of Invisalign patients have undergone a treatment involving braces at some point in their past, often during their youth. Invisalign can usually correct the shifting that occurs after braces – often referred to as a relapse.

I am currently wearing braces. Can I make the switch to Invisalign treatment?

A significant number of patients are being treated with a combination of braces and the Invisalign System.

What’s the best way to clean my aligners?

The best way to clean your aligners is by brushing and rinsing them in lukewarm water and using the Invisalign Cleaning Crystals or special cleaning tablets. It’s important that you brush your teeth after each meal before re-inserting your aligners to maintain good oral hygiene.

Are there restrictions on what I can eat while in treatment?

No. Unlike traditional wires and brackets, with the Invisalign® System you can eat whatever you like while in treatment because you remove your aligners to eat and drink. This also makes it simple to brush and floss your teeth after each meal to maintain good oral hygiene, before re-inserting your aligners.

How often should I wear the aligners?

You should wear your aligners all the time during treatment, except when eating, brushing or flossing teeth. Recommended wear 22 hours a day.

Will the aligners affect speech?

The vast majority of patients report no effect on speech. However, as with traditional orthodontic appliances, there is an initial adjustment period associated with having something new in the mouth.

Can I smoke while wearing the aligners?

Smoking is discouraged while wearing aligners because it is possible for the aligners to become stained or discoloured.

Can I chew gum while wearing aligners?

Chewing gum while wearing aligners is not advised as gum can stick to them. It is recommended that aligners be removed for all meals and snacks.

What’s the best way to clean my aligners?

The best way to clean your aligners is by brushing and rinsing them in lukewarm water and using the Invisalign Cleaning Crystals or special cleaning tablets. It’s important that you brush your teeth after each meal before re-inserting your aligners to maintain proper hygiene.

How does Invisalign® work?

How long does the Invisalign treatment take?

The time taken depends on the complexity of the treatment and is generally comparable to that of traditional braces. During your consultation, we can give you a rough idea.

Is the Invisalign treatment painful?

Some people may experience temporary, minor discomfort for a few days when they insert a new aligner at the beginning of each new stage of treatment. This is normal and is typically described as a feeling of pressure. It’s a sign that the aligners are working and it usually goes away in a couple of days.
Once Invisalign treatment is complete is a retainer necessary?

Wearing a retainer after any orthodontic treatment is an important step, because it keeps teeth stable in their new positions. If you want your teeth to remain in their ideal position, it’s best to wear a retainer as directed by an Invisalign Provider. In many cases your last aligner will be your temporary retainer, until your retention option is determined.

This of course varies depending on the amount of orthodontic change that is needed.

Some cases can take as little as 3 to 6 months.

Most cases of Invisalign take between 9-12 months.

A few complex cases can take over a year.

At the ClinCheck stage, we can see how many aligners that we plan to take. However this is always just a guide, and refinement aligners should be expected. This means always prepare for your Invisalign treatment to take longer than estimated.

We can give you tips on speeding the Invisalign process, and your compliance will always help with speed of treatment.

Following your Invisalign journey, you may want to whiten your teeth.

Often on our offer days, we will offer free whitening. This will include whitening gel and we will usually use the Boutique Whitening Kit of 4 gels. This is limited to the 4 gels and any further gels can be purchased at an additional cost.

We cannot guarantee the result on whitening.

The Whitening offer does not include Boutique Whitening Trays, as you will be able to use the Invisalign Aligners and Retainers as your whitening tray.

If you would like the Boutique Whitening Trays there will be an additional charge for these.

For more information on our whiteing, visit our Boutique Whitening page.

Following Invisalign treatment, you will need to wear retainers for as long as you want to keep your teeth straight.

Retainers will be in the form of wired or fixed, and we will determine what will be right for you. Sometimes offering both.

The free removable retainers will be our standard Essix Retainers.

The fixed wired retainers are only guaranteed for 1 year, and after this, any repairs will need to be charged for.

You do have the option of ordering Invisalign Vivera Retainers, and these are of superior quality to the standard retainers. The cost of these is £300 for a set of 3, so this is a good option to go for to have spare retainers.

Top Tips for our Invisalign patients

Aim to wear your aligners more than 21 hours a day. Keep the handy protective box with you, and only take the Invisalign aligners out when you are eating, drinking hot drinks, and when you are brushing your teeth. Otherwise, simply wear the aligners as much as possible.

We recommend choosing to change your aligner the same night every week. And also at night time, before you go to bed. This way, it can begin working while you are asleep, and this helps with comfort when wearing the newer, tighter aligners.

In the past we would have recommended every 2 weeks. However, if you wear your aligners more than 21 hours a day, and you also use the “chewies”often, then you can change your aligners more often. We would advise not less than once a week for aligner changes.

Use an emery board (nail file) to gently and in a controlled manner to make minor adjustments, such as smoothing any rough spots. If aligners continue to be sore, please contact us.

If you are taking them out when you eat and drink, and you are changing them once a week, generally your aligners will remain pretty clean with just a gentle rinse with water. You can use the cleaning pearls that are included in your Invisalign starter kit.

We hope you don’t lose any aligners, and keeping the aligner box with you will help. However this does happen, so be prepared for this and always keep the previous aligner in the pack so that you can wear this. Notify us as soon as possible, so we can order a replacement aligner, and just wear the previous aligner until this arrives. Please note there is a charge for replacement aligners, so do your best to not lose them.

Vivera retainers from Invisalign are the gold standard. You have the option of purchasing these, just let us know.

The cost for Vivera retainers is £300, and these come as a set of 3 retainers, so this is the ideal choice for backup retainers too.
