Composite Bonding

Composite Bonding is a great way to enhance the look of a smile. It is basically using a tooth-coloured biocompatible resin material to adhesively bond directly onto the tooth. We can use shape and mould this to the tooth in such a way to enhance the smile based on smile aesthetic principles.

The beauty of composite is the additive approach that can be used, meaning that this is often classed as minimally-invasive dentistry. Meaning there is often no need for aggressive preparation of the teeth, no cutting teeth down into little pegs (often seen in “Turkey Teeth”), and usually the outcome can be achieved in just one appointment.

Composite bonding, often takes about an appointment of 2 hours, however the teeth and mouth need to be ready before this is done. Healthy gums and a good position of teeth is important. You will need to be ready for looking after your dental health before having this done. And often if the position of your teeth are not favourable, then aligning your teeth will be recommended.

Invisalign® is a very popular treatment, and is suitable for almost all ages from teens to adults. Composite Bonding is an ideal companion to this, together with Teeth Whitening. Often teeth that are either crowded or spaced or in the wrong position have the wrong proportions or angles for them to look good with just Composite Bonding alone. So after a series of aligners to align the teeth, the teeth will then be in an ideal position to enhance, and whitening and bonding are a fantastic way.

Longevity of Composite Bonding will depend on diet and how well you look after them, but also will depend on other risk factors, for instance whether you bite your nails, or grind your teeth, or whether you smoke or have a lot of takeaways, or whether you have a lot of fruit juices or fizzy drinks. On average, you can look at 3 to 5 years, and we have many examples of them looking great even after 8 years.

What if there are chips or stains? Well, often times, a simple repair or refresh is needed, and not necessarily a whole new smile-makeover. However, after a few years it might be worth considering a new smile again, with either new composite, or you might even consider upgrading to ceramics. By then your teeth will be more ready for Ceramic Veneers, and this could be a way to have your smile loking great for even longer.

How much does Composite Bonding cost? To do Composite Bonding well, it often takes a mixture of time, skill, artistry, experience, quality of materials, and good aftercare and upkeep. The best way is to spread the cost of treatment with one of our finance options (which start from 0%, interest-free)  and even better is to have Composite Bonding planned after Invisalign in one of our smile-makeover packages. On average, Composite Bonding therefore ranges from about £250 to £350 per tooth.

Is it right for me? Well since everyone is unique, then the best way to find out is with a consultation visit. At this visit we can see if this modality of treatment is right for you, and more importantly, we can help you consider what options are simply right for you now and also in the future.

A great way for us to give you a bit of a guide is to send us your photos. You can use this link to enter your details and then we can process some carefully taken photos of your smile now, and this can give us a bit of an idea on what we can suggest for you, so give this a try if you want to find out more.
